MARC WISE

I have been working in the wine trade in various forms since 1997, when like so many others, I started at Oddbins. The passion for wine shown by my colleagues enthused me to get more involved and the generally irreverant attitude to great names and interest in new wines remains with me today. After several years at Oddbins and a brief spell with Sainsbury's I ended up working for La Reserve wine merchants, running their well known whisky and wine store 'Milroys' in Soho. La Reserve was recently sold and I decided it was time to give it a go independently.

I have several Wine and Spirit Education Trust qualifications including most recently my Diploma and will endeavour to put my taste buds to the test as often as possible in the hunt for glorious new experiences of the vine. My involvement in whisky for the past 2 years will also be useful as we will be listing a number of malts and other spirits in the future or as soon as we find some worth listing.

MATT HARRIS

Matt has been in the wine trade for 16 years and has been drinking, some say quite heavily, for even longer. At an early age his first introduction to wine was on a family jaunt down the river Loire, where he and his brother were treated to Saumur Champigny, watered down, with steak frites. It has been an upward spiral of degustation from there. (Favourite food and wine match is Banana Split with Chateau d’Yquem 1990.)

With a healthy appetite and a figure to match, it did not take much persuading for him to get involved with Planet of the Grapes.

SAM WEBER-BROWN

Sam has been working in the wine trade since 2001 when he joined the illustrious La Reserve. He joined as their van driver and rose quickly through the ranks; by the time the company was bought out by the Jeroboams Group in 2004 he was managing customer’s private reserves, stock control, the fleet of vans and the general head-office pandemonium. Having successfully moved over to Jeroboams Sam decided that his talents were better placed with another independent wine merchant and so came over to Planet of the Grapes.

Sam has paid his own way through the WSET diploma, which is some feat, during which time he wrote some glorious essays, tasted some decent wine along with a good deal of filth and eventually got on a trip to Burgundy; he can now die a happy man!! Sam will be managing our flagship shop in Holborn, we're sure his years in logistics will enable him to make POTG run like a well oiled machine.
